It is probably one of the reasons I try to have a new set for each character - if they evoke the charcter that is under their influence, they will respond in the way the character should, rather than the way I ask them to. I will therefore get the charcater, not me playing it - infuriating as that may be at times.
This is, as you say, working around the misguided assumption that all dice are unbiased.
