...attending a main event without a character to play. Plenty of stuff to keep me occupied though.

Friday evening was spent in the Archers as Lorne - slightly bimbling but very friendly archaeologist from the guildhouse outside Treseryn, and old friend of Dantarian's. He was working on A MapTM that led to A BoxTM that Should Not Be OpenedTM, which he wanted to open in order to find out what was inside. Academics are like that.

Evidently, someone else wanted to as well.

Come Saturday, he drops into the archers around midday, looking for his wife and daughter, Brianna and Branwen, who the guild met on Friday evening but hadn't been seen since they got back to Tresryn that night. Upon no-one having seen them and his stress level hiking up another coule of notches from where it previously was, checking of the guildhouse reavealed it as having been quite royally ransacked and Lorne's map and notes stolen.

By now, Lorne was getting really quite worried for the whereabouts of his family.

Come Sunday, as Lorne drags himself into the guild looking decidedly haggared after staying up all night working on resketching the map as a means to keep his mind off things, who should show up through the transport circle but Branwen, drugged up to the eyeballs and rambling about a wonderful place she had been staying in with lots of people in it. Attached, a ransom note for Brianna, demanding him and his map-deciphering expertise in return for her safe release.

Cue a scream that I was quite proud of.

There was one of those wonderful moments in the ensuing activity where I sat back and watched while Lorne took control of his own physrep. After having calmed down a little after tearfully re-uniting with Branwen ([livejournal.com profile] lady_ellinor doing a wonderful rendition of a young elf who had been retarded back to little more than a toddler via mind-altering substances), one of the guildmasters started reading the ransom note out loud to the assembled members. On instinct, Lorne started asking his daughter about the "pretty tent" she had said she had stayed in in an attempt to prevent her from hearing what had been written. That wasn't me - I'm not a parent - that was Lorne. He is.

Next week we go and try to dupe the kidnappers into giving back Brianna ([livejournal.com profile] copper13 playing a long-suffering academic's wife), while keeping Lorne safe as well. Given that it's the archers guild (if you take away the bows they seem to be the best parts of the scouts and bards guilds combined), it should involve quite a lot of light-side skulduggery and be quite a good laugh, and should also pave the way for more elven angsting. We like. Cheers to [livejournal.com profile] dantarian and [livejournal.com profile] feliana for offering me the role.

Other interesting monster roles for the weekend included:
A quartet of professional killers who carried out a gloriously smooth body-snatch from under the noses of three bodyguards. [livejournal.com profile] drabbit, [livejournal.com profile] helbling, [livejournal.com profile] erindellr and myself hit Lewenna in a beautiful move that involved stolen archers guild sashes, gratuitous use of both bullshit and fear spells and the Unicorn bodyguard instinctively jumping back and forming line when we dobbed the target on the back of the head and dragged her into a transport circle. Most reasonable of them.
Mindstalker, a) carrying out an even smoother hit that involved walking the target across the market place under an enthrall only to find that he'd been OOC when the spell went off, and b) touring the factions because mine obviously weren't interested, asking for information and accompanied by a howling party of beastkin trying to stop anyone from talking to me.
An abyssal daemonscourge - an absolutely nails creature that Rhinyn would have fallen down on the floor and kissed the shoes of the statter for being given the opportunity to fight. More of those when Revek comes out please. I'll take them all on.

Didn't get to see much of the faction, but suffice it to say that what the Tarantulas wanted once again went. When a Unicorn ritualist reported being dobbed unconcious and having his ritual documents stolen so another ritual could be done for them, I gave up hope. I'll say no more until I've calmed down.

[livejournal.com profile] helbling seems to have enjoyed her first LT main event, even if it was slightly confusing.

I'm moving house on Wednesday - this will prove to be an overly traumatic event, I'm sure.

More work to do, kit to design, characters to prepare for and less than a week to get them done. Why am I posting on LJ...
