...by UoB library services - where literature searches take three days.

I have completed the first draft of the PhD introduction. The writing was about eight hours work - it's only about twenty and a half pages, line and a half spaced. Finding the extra references that weren't already in the first year report introduction has just taken the entirety of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the library on floors one, three and four. There are currently seventy three references and I'm sick and damned tired of them.

My UberMadness second round entry has just walked off with the win, mainly due to the other guy forfeiting. The only competition left in the round for the six of us up against forfeits was seeing who got the highest ratio of votes for to votes against their post (people still have to vote between what you wrote and a little emoticon with the word FORFEIT next to it). I have the highest share of the votes out of the six, so it could probably be said that I had one of the better posts of those who won by no-contest. It is, by general consensus, a good deal better than my first round attempt (the second of the two entries), that lost comprehensively to the same person that Caroline just beat in the second round. She is now 2-0 and going to be going up against some of the really top-notch contestants, whereas I'm now at 1-1 and could get into a reasonable bracket by winning the next round. Third round titles come out on Tuesday.

I'm still feeling good about doing something I hadn't done in ages, and I'm glad other people doing so made them feel good too. I must do stuff like that more often.

This weekend should be one of the most relaxing I've had in ages. I'll be home at a reasonable hour, sleeping until noon on Saturday, getting to bed at reasonable times thanks to Emma's presence at UEH, cooking together with her, and larping on Sunday as either the quiet one or a monster, depending on who we have show up from Saturday's session. Quite nice before diving back into trying to find a job before the bank start tapping their foot and hurrumphing in my general direction.

When I was told I had an interview at the Job Centre on Wednesday, I dutifully looked up on Yell where I should be going. It pointed me here. Off I went to where the arrow was pointing at, arriving ten minutes early at half past one.

No Job Centre to be found.

Come twenty-three minutes to two, I ring them, and say where I am.

"Oh, no - you're miles away."
"Really? So, where should I be, then?"
"You know where the old Boots used to be?"
"...Yerrs..."
"It's opposite that, across the pelican crossing."
"...Riight..."

Cue sprinting to the other end of town, arriving fifteen minutes late. Not a great way to endear yourself to your personal advisor, really. He seemed okay with it, probably because I kept the map and demonstrated that Yell.com couldn't find their arse during a diarrhoea attack (notice the address is correct, but the map is wrong. Even more equivocal).

Right. I'm off home to make potato, bacon and Jarlsberg bake. Far, far nicer than it sounds.
