It Can Hurt Some Times...
Jan. 6th, 2008 12:41 am...when you don't pay attention and let it creep up on you.
Live long enough to watch the future become legend, and you'll find something you regret. There are no exceptions, only the hope that your regret will be bearable with respect to your mental state.
Yes, it is. Otherwise, I would have been insane long before now. But that doesn't mean it's painless.
I challenge you to experience as much as I have and maintain an entirely clear conscience. No, not just looking me in the eye and saying it - any fool with an ounce of discretion can do that - I mean being able to lay awake at night, when the daemons come, and know that there is nothing for them to prey upon. To never know a nightmare. To never know hurt. To never wish you had had the power or the skill to effect a different outcome.
Tell me you can, and I'll name you a liar. As I said, there are no exceptions.
It hurts, but you know, deep inside of you, that it's something you can accept and use. It all adds to what you are; the sum total of experiences that creates the unique individual who lays in their bed and faces those daemons head on. Regardless of the outcome, whether or not they are successful in their attempts to hurt you, I salute you for your courage in accepting that they have grounds to try.
You know they do. Stop denying it.
Welcome the pain. Give it a place by the fire. Let it add to you, keep you warm, give you hope...take time once in a while to immerse yourself in it and let it contribute to the forging of your life, but make sure you have a safety net to fall into.
Don't do it completely alone, or you might never come back.
Watch, feel, remember. Never forget, never give the daemons more than you have to, and never make the mistake of thinking that you are too special to give them anything.
They'll only take greater pleasure in tearing you apart when they finally lay their claws upon you.
