Daft and sad as it sounds, FS and FS2 got me into scifi bigtime. I was just blown away by their storyline, which echoes real world history so well - right down to the struggling of the Human spirit in the face of all adversity. You really feel part of the game, you try to look after your wingmen because they actually have character and there are some genuinely heartrending moments.
The other thing I like (trying not to spoiler) is that it doesn't fall into the trap of: "OOhh look, a Death Star - luckiliy it has a weakness..."
The game portrays you as one pilot in the void of space, and no matter how hard you try you cannot win a war by yourself. FS and FS2 are my alltime favourite games.
I'm currently at home now, with the ability to copy the CDs so if you want a set just drop a line before Friday.
