I don't know enough about DVC background to actually make informed decisions as to whether or not it's true, but for me it's always been about the story. How well it's told is just icing on the cake - I can watch films and read books other people have thought were shite and really enjoy them because I like the concept, i.e. the story simply for the sake of it. So I enjoyed DVC coz partially it had links to some stuff I believe in, just made it that much more interesting to read, though I don't necessarily believe it's true. But mainly I liked the idea of a "treasure hunt" story and trying to get one step ahead. Read Digital Fortress shortly after and found it was a lot easier to solve the clues in that one because I knew what sort of clues I was looking for.
