...the new TL season approaches apace, and I have a poll of players to make.

The new guy, without giving too much away, isn't exactly going to be the report-writing sort. however, I want to keep my eye in by writing something about him, be it journal entries or scenery posts for him. These may or may not be rather revealing about the character, and I am well aware some people prefer to know only what they find out IC (me, for one) about other people's characters. Therefore, there are some options.

This journal is 100% public - I make a point never to make a locked post - so if I did it here, it would be under cuts for those who weren't bothered or didn't want to read.

If it would be preferred, however, I can do another journal. I tried this for Starke but it never really got off the ground as he spent most of his time crafting official reports. This time will be rather different, and would allow me to be as free as I liked as I could lock it to those who were interested, and those who didn't want to know would never see what was happening.

Obviously, anything that was read would be for entertainment only, and would be classed as stricly OOC knowledge.

What do people think? Do it here and trust yourself? Or do it somewhere else and remove whatever temptation there might be?

Given my tendency to use public-but-cut entries whenever I'm doing journals for my girls, you can probably guess my response...that said, I haven't been convinced of my own ability to behave in quite some time (*muttermutterparanoiamutter*)

You are perfectly capable of behaving (I think it even if you don't), but it seems no-one else trusts themselves as much as you do - looking like a new journal.

I'm probably not going to play, but I'd be interested to read just for entertainments sake.

I'll let you know when it's up and running.

I think it has to come down to have many big revelations about the character you don't want people to find IC, and how much you trust others.

I'd go for make a separate entry and unlock it at the end of the campaign...

If I have a separate journal, I can do as many big revelations as I like. It's not something I've explored before, and I probably should.

It's not necessarily a question of trust, in my opinion.

If it's put out on a public forum, which LJ is, then people will read it. If the things that are revealed about the character can affect their rp, it will - either because they're metagaming or trying hard not to metagame, so prevent their character learning things about yours or struggle with the point at which it is acceptable that the character has gained Knowledge.

That said, despite any efforts we may make in the area, somebody will end up monstering something where they'll get bits about PCs, which may include yours, and that may then also carry over - so it may not make much difference.

Tough call - personally would err on the cautious side, then point non-involved like Lucy to the new comm, and then maybe any others who are clearly playing PCs that aren't involved with yours there.

But I'm not a player, so it's not my opinion you're asking!

You make good points. People who want to know won't get hurt by having one more on their friends list.

I'd rather not know, but LJ cuts would work just fine. On the other hand you could err on the side of caution and make it a separate journal. That might inspire you to write more, and more openly.

I think you're right. If I put it under cuts, I'd forever be hiding what was going on. There's also nothing stopping me from crossposting the occasional non-sensitive bit of scenery to here.

Cross posting whenever desired seems like a good compromise.
