...I should count myself lucky that the worst burn I've ever had constitutes second degree burns over less than one percent of my skin. Tomorrow, that will probably be a blessing I'm happy to count.

Right now, however, looking at the state of my left hand, it's rather scant and painful consolation. Bloody hell, that hurts.

Last time I properly scalded myself, I was about ten months old - there is still a patch of skin on my leg that grows darker hair than that round it.

I didn't go to the doctors in the end - I spent the rest of the evening with my hand immersed in cold water. Not as good as running, but it meant I woke up today with only a tingle, very little pain, and an impressively mottled hand.
