In A House Without People...
Jun. 5th, 2006 01:15 pm...there is no-one else to use the network connections.
Sunday was spent playing EQ2 - but we'll get on to that later.
By Friday afternoon, Keiran and I had decided that there wasn't much of a problem with the offending paper I located on Thursday - to say this is a relief is something of an understatement. I can now get on with the manufacture of wonderful new crystals that I can't do decent analysis on because they're thinner than your average piece of paper. [/redefine ironic annoyance].
As everyone else in the group is putting in their twopennyworth about Vampire, here's what I think. I'm enjoying the game. I'm enjoying watching what Tom/Steve is doing to Janie/Emma simply because I assume that Matt/I will get a chance to shiv Tom in the back with a pickup truck for buggery at some point in the future. Elsie/Elizabeth and Darren/Jon have been fucked over from the start - make of that what you will. Lyn/Caroline needs to either be what she is supposed to be or step aside and let someone who is willing and able do it for her. Unfortunately, due to Tom's machinations, I'm not sure she's going to take control unless he says she can. I can see this being the only way into investigation that Matt will have, and he then has to negotiate domination/commands/majesty/the martial skill of those who try to defend themselves to do it. No matter - it's easily getting to the point where he'd willingly trade his life for Tom's if he knew what Tom was up to. We'll see what happens.
I still don't understand the algorithms Tim uses to assign experience, but I'm not the GM - I don't have to. I can't see the game having a short-term conclusion, so if Tim leaves to pursue his new career climbing the rungs in the civil service, we might not get an end-point. This would be a pity, but it would mean the almost inevitable conclusion that not even the character's own player wants to happen may be avoided. Looks like it's the only way at the moment.
White City on Saturday was the normal pressure-off fun that I've come to expect from it. The game had tight plot and fair depth for a "newbie" game, and I met more people. New/returning members seem to drop out of the woodwork at the moment, so the games are getting quite large.
Sunday, Sunday, and no-one else in the house. Restarting the server gave me an internet connection, and functioning EQ2. Fine, it wasn't Emma (or even close to her), but it was better than any cuddly toy would ever manage. Yesterday was character revamp day, as I got the four characters I kept back on track and made sure I understood their new abilities (since the all-changing Live Update 19). I deleted two I'd lost interest in and replaced them with two more, and now have a Ranger, Beserker, Conjuror, Wizard, Fury and Monk in order of precedence (but not levels, just yet). Rhinyn and Rabbie, both secure in the twenties, will be put on hold while I catch Aryelle, Vaexarius, Animbus and Thiandelle up to them a little (yes, people may or may not recognise some or all of those names).
I've now played EverQuest for a total of six years and never had a character climb above rank twenty-six. This, in my opinion, makes me an enthusiast rather than a militant. Don't ask me about raiding. Why raid when you can build a career by working for people?
It takes real people years to become that famous - why do gamers feel the need to rush over the journey and get to the phat lewtz?
