Why Is it...
Mar. 18th, 2007 12:38 pm...that classical singers try to appeal to people who don't listen to them by singing bad knock offs of what they assume they will?
The Classical Album 2007 is currently playing, courtesy of my having presented it to mum alongside the yellow and white themed bouquet this morning. Someone has translated Bryan Adams' Everything I Do into italian, and Catherine Jenkins is singing it with full symphonic backing. It blows hobbit snot.
Why do they bother? There is plenty of good music for these people to sing. The back catalogs of the great composers from before our time is bursting with quality that deserves to be listened to - if not by people who won't appreciate it, then by those who will. The British public - hell, the MTV generation in general - is never going to accept classical music as a popular alternative, so I fail to see why producers keep trying to make them. How about catering to the audience who likes you for once?
Having been kept abreast of events leading up to and at the IC meal, it once again becomes apparent that despite people telling me the contrary, you really shouldn't go out on a limb and trust people you know too far - even those you thought were well-meaning and reasonable. Crimes against common sense and the power to put them into effect regardless of complaint are not a good combination.
I know that charity shops and Ebay are good places to look for a long black leather trenchcoat, but can anyone recommend anywhere else I may find a reasonably priced one? If I'm going to do TJ live, I definitely, definitely need one. It's as much part of his character as his shades or his assholedness.
