...things ran smoothly, very few arguments, people were happy with the presents, and I got a 1,3,7-trimethyl-2,6-dioxopurine T-shirt. Everyone should have a 1,3,7-trimethyl-2,6-dioxopurine T-shirt.

In addition to the shirt, I now have (among ither things) a periodic table tie (you see where they were going?), two new sets of natty looking cuff-links, a strange take on hammocks (executive version - requires two underlings, not included), new towels, one of those executive desk thermometers that work on the density of the liquid supporting various weighted bulbs inside them, and a couple of other slightly-pointless-but-nice-to-receive gifts that in all made up quite a good selection. The pride and joy, however, was my very own navy blue Crombie - a glorious addition to my evening wear wardrobe, and as warm as a most terribly warm thing. Definitely one for winter black-tie parties, once I start going to them again. One of the main things I miss from Bristol is the getting into evening wear on a very regular basis. I'll be needing the right job to get back to it - that, or a post-doc at the Uni and a tutoring position back in Wills.
Mum was, in the end, pleased with what I got her. The large piece of canvasboard artwork filled a space on the wall she was looking for something for, the Thorntons were appreciated as expected, the DVDs were a pleasing distraction and the XD card drive that finally allows her to interface her digital camera with the ailing machine with which I am updating this journal still has novelty value, to say nothing of its usefulness once that wears off.
Dad and I are enjoying both his and my scotches, so that worked, though he hasn't taken the wrapper off his DVDs yet. As fas as I know, the Moody Blues were his favourite band - I hope he hasn't changed his mind.
Dinner was excellent both days, the TV was bad enough that we were able to have music playing quietly in the background and conversation as the main sounds in the house, and it's nice to chill out away from work, stress and annoying people before heading back unto the breach come January.

Play have started their sale nice and early, and are providing the means to acquire eleven films and a CD album for less than sixty-five pounds once again. Heading my way at the moment are Dragnet, Spy Hard, Top Secret, Hot Shots I & II, Die Hard I, III & III, From Dusk 'til Dawn, Cube and Haunted Honeymoon, as well as Eye To The Telescope, which I've heard too many good tracks off not to buy. Tacky films, I know, but I'm still in the process of building the collection I want. I have endless time to get the new ones - they'll be in print for years to come yet, and to tell the truth, I'm more interested in what is to follow in 2006 - Underworld: Evolution and X3 - than what happened this year.

Right - more caffeine needed. Did I say caffeine? I meant 1,3,7-trimethyl-2,6-dioxopurine...

Mmm, huge fan of Play.com. I picked up a present from there for someone back on the Rock, which is odd because Play sends items out from Jersey. So it came from the Channel Islands to be wrapped by me, and then I sent it right back again.

A strange waste of time, but necessary...

Never gone quite that far, but I have ordered stuff online that comes from somewhere inside the same half-postcode as my family home before.

Could they not have sent it gift-wrapped to the location? Or is it only Amazon that do that?

Those hammocks are cool - I got one for my dad's stocking a few years ago.

Incidently, am now in posession of speakers for the computer here, and am as I write this listening to "The Night that Christ was Born".

Now it comes to hearing the choir singing on my computer I'm just sitting back and enjoying it rather than being jealous that I didn't get to be there.
Congrats on the solo, by the way. Hiccups aside, of course. You covered for it pretty well, and on the radio, it could just as easily have been a recording glitch.

*Christ is born song finishes*
*dies in a pool of beauty and floatyness*

How long is the stream going to be on their website for? I currently can't get on to it.

I got there by going to bbc.co.uk and searching Bath gospel christmas. First link on the list.
