The only thing that can be done to make the game more fun for me, unfortunately, is to make the world a 24/7/52 dynamic system, where things that are done in downtime affect the world, IC communications are moderated and acted upon by the GM, and personal plots make an entry but never dominate the main thrust of the storyline the characters find themselves in.
As there is fat chance of that ever happening, or even steps towards that being taken, there isn't much to be done.
