...has shifted approximately 0.25ppm from that of its starting molecule.

It's laced with DMSO and water, and is terribly, terribly faint, but it's definitely there.

I think I've just synthesised the molecule my PhD was designed to create.

I'm not sure whether to crack open the beer or burst into tears. I've actually done it.

That would be excellent, if only I knew the next time I'd be anywhere near Oxford.

A word so rarely used in research, probably because thing so rarely go right. Indeed, this is probably the first actualy congratulation-worthy success I've had during the entire PhD. It rocks, it does.

I'm sure my reaction to that shouldn't have been "Ooh, he can get DMSO".

Hope it's all working out- STAY you tricksy molecule!

DMSO, various alcohols, chloroform, acetone, all sitting in 2.5L bottles on the lab shelf. Can I pick you up anything for the Gathering?

If I come along, do I get liquid nitrogen to play with?

Said it yesterday, but will say it again - Congratulations! May your molecule always make you happy - or something.

Moving to Stu's favourite pickup line.
"Does this smell like chloroform to you...?"
