Rest In Peace...

...Rhinyn Morridar, Ranger of Mauritania, Watcher of Mauritania, Champion of the Heartlands. Born March 1082AF, Died May 1106AF.

Fuh-uk...

Just as Rhinyn was creeping up on being a full two years of played age, he managed to catch one too many enchated crushes to the chest and got thrown through a void gate. In the last two hours of his life, he had been informed about the loss of another Pen Cethren member, been invested as a Watcher of Mauritania, named a Champion of the Heartlands for having been part of the third placed team at the games, and decided that life might just be taking off nicely.

Until two void gates opened and elementals by the wagonload poured out.

The first wave got dealt with nicely, but were all global and striking for enchanted crush. Even in my super-twinked out state of single hit, body dev., endurance and mastercrafted light armour, it only took two of them before I was well and truly dropped. By the time the second gate opened, I must have been poleaxed to the ground about seven times before an elemental (rather than a healer) managed to get hold of me, and started dragging me towards the gate. Even with the long route being taken, I was still more or less at the gate before anyone noticed - and by all accounts quite a few people noticed - and it was too late to do anything about it.

Mortal bodies don't survive well in the Void.

I lasted just under two seconds, almost as long as I had against the elder tainted, and joined what must have been approaching a fifty name long list of casualties at this event. I can't complain - Mindstalker personally killed someone on Saturday night and I suppose it was what goes around coming around at last. It does, however, mean that I'm free to monster both moots while I put together Revek, which will provide me with a fair amount of Gold to bring him in with at the Gathering.

I liked Rhinyn - he was the closest character to me that I played, and he ended up being trusted as one of the Unicorn faction's most l33t scoutz. He had the ear of some very powerful people, quite a few good friends in different groups, and some good backplot that I was hoping would one day come back to be put to rest in whichever way it was decided to be. I had hoped he wouldn't die in a ditch somewhere, stabbed up by the tarantulas for a crime he didn't commit, and he did at least manage to avoid that, but it would have been nice to have played a body for a while. Oh well - maybe Meldir will find a suit of green and brown light armour kicking about next time he goes void fishing.

Out with the old, in with the new.

In my head, I see a dashing figure in flaming scarlet and cream, brandishing a firey war axe, smiting evilness and turning heads wherever he goes. It'll probably end up as me, looking like a american football player and getting dropped like a bad habit ten seconds after every mosh kicks off, but I can but dream...

Dave says that the total death count for the weekend was 96 and that was about a tenth of the attendees.
I was sorry to hear about Rhinyn's death but was also kind of glad I didn't go IC Monday as Lewenna had a bad enough weekend as it was and I'm not sure how she'd have coped losing another two Pen Cethren. Looking forward to meeting your new character whenever you get round to bringing him out.

[identity profile] magicaddict.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
96? At the Heartland Games? I am right in assuming that this is a fairly high number, yes?

I need to email you about Cadrus Cordus stuff and the Order. Revek will turn up groupless looking to join, but as he's already an incantor of Cadrus I'll need probably more information than I have already - any chance I could pick your brains about it, or is there someone even better informed that I could annoy?

[identity profile] ruthste.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, that would be a lot even for a Moot and about average for the Gathering I would guess. In terms of Cadrus Cornus and Order stuff I can certainly let you know what we've got but as the plot team still haven't passed us any official info despite over three years of asking I can't promise it will be much. If you want to you can chase people up on it for us and we'd be grateful but frankly I've pretty much given up hope of getting anything.

Haven't had any requests. Let me know what you're after hon and I'll sort it for moots. If I don't sort it for moots, tell me and I'll sit and talk you through stuff.

[identity profile] kipperfish.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
:-( Sorry to hear that dude. All 3 of us (you, me, Antarios) in quick succession. Bugger. Hope the new char gives you the enjoyment and more that Rhyninn gave you.

[identity profile] magicaddict.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
That leaves us with Moonshadow and Darcus - and anyone they manage to pick up. The dwindling number of l33t scoutz is going to show through soon unless sorted out. Sorry I won't be able to help. Revek isn't exactly an arboreal ninjitsu kind of guy.

[identity profile] kipperfish.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Tyler = Castelmaine for the LT so chances of me doing the scouting thang are unlikely although the only major difference is the armour is lighter so I can just about get away with scouting if necessary.....

[identity profile] magicaddict.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Mike/Speaks brought out someone who might fill the gap, but he rubbed Rhinyn and Moonshadow up entirely the wrong way the first time they worked with him. Who knows - maybe the light company will have to take over.

*Starts writing will*

Seriously going to miss Rhinyn. Can't wait to see the new character.

[identity profile] magicaddict.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
From what people said, a lot of them are - it's nice to see that what was essentially an extension of me was thought of so highly.

[identity profile] lady-ellinor.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a real bugger. I only found out off the boards and went hunting for you here. I am very upset IC, for what it's worth! I hate losting characters, hope you're a bbetter-adjusted person than me. *g*

If you're doing cream and crimson, do you want any crimson velvet? I have a load, but it's stretchy stuff.

[identity profile] magicaddict.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
And the only other person that knew how Rhinyn felt about Evenstar is dead as well, so she'll never know...and *yoink* consider yourself friended.

Very kind of you, may well accept - I'm looking for my mum to make me a roman-style cape to fit on the cuirass I have via a couple of D-rings. It was going to be red lined in cream - how much have you got, and how much woud you want for it?

[identity profile] lady-ellinor.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Cost me nothing so I shan't cahrge you for it, and I have a pretty large amount, certainly enough for a Romanesque cloak to ahng down the back. I don't know the dimensions of it, but if you like I'll bring it to the Moots and you can have a dekko?

[identity profile] magicaddict.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds fine. Beats trawling for bolts of cloth.

I thought 5/5 characters gained immunity from death? Isn't that stipulated somewhere on the website?

[/facetiousness]

I knew, indeed high level characters seem more vulnerable in this system than others I've known.

See everyone on Saturday, all things remaining the same between now and then.

Gabriel's still a couple of months off being ready yet - the man at Tallows, he said yes, but it'll be the end of the June before the sword's ready. I need to monster more to make sure I have a good grasp of the system anyway.

You said some magic words there - long term monster role. If it's being offered to me, I'm very interested in playing it.

*Assumes Marlon Brando-esque voice*

Whadaya gat?

How could anyone not want a long-term role?

Too true. You've got my email.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_peter/ 2006-05-31 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto. :D

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_peter/ 2006-05-31 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry about the dying boss. Never a good way to go. :(

[identity profile] magicaddict.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
Short of mutual and simultaneous killing blows delivered to me and the uber gribbly I was fighting, I really can't think of a good way to go - who knows, I might get spat out as a daemon.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_peter/ 2006-05-31 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
There are good ways. Being told your pattern has probably just exploded and that you need to go to GOD before you time in again really isn't one of them. :)

If I'm still alive, I'll see if I can prod about and find a body. ;)

[identity profile] magicaddict.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Haven't they told you yet? You had to spend half the event OOC because they couldn't confirm or deny what happened after Magic got stabbed up?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_peter/ 2006-05-31 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I teleported out with the intention of not going back IC that event as I had too much to do OC, however, still don't know where I am. :) Half the fun though, isn't it? ;)
